Congratulations to Phil Costigan, a radio legend!

It all started on October 5th 1982. On that auspicious day Phil Costigan, the radio legend, found his calling. From his illustrious career on KQ98 to his Caledonia Football coaching days, he’s made a name for himself. Everyone knows Phil and they all have kind words to say. Basically, Phil Costigan is an icon, but he’d probably wince if you said so. He’s one of the most genuine, down-to-earth guys you’ll ever meet. Everything you’ve heard on the radio is absolutely the real deal and that authenticity is why so many people love him. They understand him and, more importantly, Phil understands the Tri-State. He was born in Iowa, lives in Minnesota and works in Wisconsin, at least for one more day.

It’s hard to imagine KQ98 without Phil. For decades he’s rolled out of bed in the middle of the night to help us start our day. His booming voice is quick with a joke, a very tall tale and the occasional groan-worthy pun. But as long as Phil was on the air, it would be a good day! To KQ98 listeners, Phil Costigan is family, and that’s the greatest honor anyone in our profession can aspire to. We all hope to retire one day with a feeling of accomplishment, as though we’ve made a difference in the world. It’s clear that Phil left a meaningful impression on all of us.

I’ve worked with many announcers over the years, but no one has ever been more of a personality than Phil! We’ve worked many broadcasts at client locations and county fairs, but nobody has ever had the following Phil has. God bless you Phil thanks for the memories and being a awesome co-worker and friend!

Thank you, Phil for your dedication to KQ98, Mid-West Family La Crosse and our community. It’s been a privilege to work with you all these years. As you said, there are no guarantees, so enjoy this time. You’ve earned it and deserve it. We’ll miss you. Don’t be a stranger. There will always be frosty adult beverages and friendly faces here at 201 State Street. Cheers to you Phil Costigan! You’re one of the good ones.
